Things we have done to improve the energy efficiency of the apartments:
- Each bathroom faucet and shower head feature super low-flow aerators/heads (1.5 gallons per minute).
- All interior and exterior cage-type lighting fixtures feature either CFL or LED bulbs.
- The track lighting in the kitchen features 12 volt bulbs.
- The walls of the apartment are fully insulated with fiberglass batt insulation or dense-pack cellulose (~R15) and the attic is hermetically sealed and insulated with a combination of fiberglass batts and blown cellulose insulation (totalling ~R66).
- All windows (with the exception of the glazing in the refurbished historic exterior doors and the small historic in-swing window in the second story bathroom) are either double glazed or single glazed with a properly fitted and sealed "triple-trac" aluminum storm window.
- All windows and doors are weather stripped.
- The rear entrances are outfitted with a storm/screen or insulated door.
- All crawl spaces are sealed and insulated.
- Water pipes are insulated and baseboards and windows are caulked and weather-stripped.
- We've re-pointed the foundation, both exterior and interior.
- All appliances, hot water heaters, and furnaces/boilers are high-efficiency.
